Single Bearing Dies

We are holders of a patent for solid “Single Bearing” dies that permit major productivity improvements. The flow of aluminium in the dies is controlled thanks to three feed pre-chambers forming a variable angle throughout the perimeter of the profile, supplying the necessary amount of aluminium for each point of the profile. These pre-chambers are calculated by means of our own software, developed via experiments on scaled models and on-site testing in extrusion presses, and are constantly improved to feature the specifications of different profile types.

Since the bearings are not responsible for controlling the aluminium flow as is the case of conventional, flat dies, their mission is to provide the final shape of the profile, and therefore the bearing height can be reduced between 2 – 2.5 mm, depending on the thickness of the profile. This lower bearing height permits higher extrusion speeds with lower block operating temperatures, a combination of variables that permits reaching the necessary output temperature in each case necessary to achieve the standard mechanical characteristics of the aluminium. We recommend Single Bearing dies for solid profiles featuring uniform thicknesses, in which productivity is improved by up to 30%$, with speeds of up to 40 m / min, and a useful working life capable of reaching 200,000 kg., with suitable nitriding planning.
